When Jess contacted us to shoot her Bohemian Style Intimate Family Wedding Getaway at ExNihilo Vineyards in Kelowna, we were super stoked. She told us that it would be her and her fiance and their little boy along with 12 of their closest friends and family. And, it didn’t hurt that she also said she contacted us because it says on our website that we love the 1990’s movie Joe vs The Volcano. We love awesome cheesy 90’s movies AND attention to detail, and we knew that Jess and Tyler were going to be an awesome fit for us.
Jess had her hair and makeup done at Cream Salon in Kelowna (on Cooper Rd). I’m pretty sure that Jess and her sisters and mother (and I, Carly) all felt like we were friends with the ladies at the Salon by the time we left. And EVERYONE in the salon could not get over Jess’s pretty coral head-piece that she made herself. I knew as soon as I met Jess that morning (if the same taste in movies hadn’t already set the bar high) that we were soul sisters, as she has a definite love for splashes of colour.
When Josh arrived to meet Tyler at his hotel room at The Delta Grand, he knew instantly that it was going to be a great day with fantastic people. Everyone that Jess + Tyler surround themselves with are just truly genuine people… and hilarious as well. Tyler is one of the funniest guys we’ve ever met.
Jess + Tyler had their First Look at Millcreek Regional Park which suited their Boho style wedding day to the tee. Surrounded by nature their son and their families, they met for a brief moment to see each other before they walked down the aisle.
The ceremony was at ExNihilo Vineyards, which is one of Kelowna’s prettiest wineries. If everyone could get married at sunset in July, we’d be the happiest photographers ever. As the sun was casting it’s amazingly beautiful Okanagan Summer Golden Light on the vineyard, Jess walked down a row of vines as the aisle to meet her groom. Jess’s mother, a Pentecostal Pastor, married them in the midst of the vines in one of the sweetest and most memorable ceremonies.
And then there was dinner…. oh glorious dinner. Jess + Tyler worked with Chef Jeff Kreklau to design a custom 5 course dinner complete with wine pairings for each course. We’re pretty sure this is what the food will taste like in heaven. Each and every course was the best thing we had ever tasted. Chef Jeff Kreklau is the chef at Routes Grill in Lake Country. There was one long table in the middle of the room, and we all sat together to enjoy our dinner, as their family and friends rose to share stories and toast the sweet couple.
The owner at ExNihilo even brought out her son and lots of toys to play with Jess + Tyler’s son during the sunset dinner. The owners went above and beyond, and were so welcoming.
Congratulations Jess + Tyler. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of capturing your day!
